James Greey
I didn’t paint growing up and could never draw. Inspired by watching my wife create art, I started to dabble in painting. What started as curiosity soon became a passion, leading me to explore oil painting, with some ventures into watercolour.
Living with aphantasia—an inability to visualize images—means I approach painting differently. Instead of picturing a scene before I paint, I rely on emotion, observation, and intuition to bring my work to life. This unique perspective allows me to focus on color, texture, and the act of painting itself, rather than recreating an image from memory.
For me, art is about the process, the challenge, and the joy of creating something tangible from an idea I cannot see.
