Carmen Munoz

I was born and raised in Paraguay, a landlocked country nestled in the heart of South America, to Spanish parents. Later, my husband, children, and I relocated to California, where we lived for a significant period before ultimately deciding to immigrate to Canada. Now, we find ourselves settled in Newfoundland.

In 2019, our lives took a dramatic turn when we were involved in a devastating car accident. Struck by an enormous moose weighing 300 kilograms, I was left in critical condition, with doubts lingering about my survival through the night. However, against the odds, I pulled through. It was during the subsequent months of recovery that I discovered a newfound passion for painting. Something shifted within me that fateful night of the accident, I became captivated by the vibrant world of colors. Encouragement from friends and strangers alike who were taken aback by my unique artistic style, prompted me to delve deeper into painting. Thus, I embarked on this creative journey.

Each one of my paintings encapsulates fragments of my cultural heritage and cherished memories intertwined with the landscapes and traditions of my birthplace. Drawing inspiration from both Paraguayan and Spanish cultures, I infuse my art with symbols, colors and motifs that resonate with my upbringings.
